INGC adopts new criteria for the distribution of food in flooded areas

The National Institute of Disaster Management is rethinking the introduction of uniform criteria for the distribution of food to the victims of the floods that have inundated the plains of the Save, Búzi, Púnguè and Zambeze rivers, in the provinces of Inhambane, Sofala, Manica, Tete and Zambézia.

Mozambique: Flood situation may worsen, but the loss of lives will be much less

For the second consecutive year, Mozambique is suffering from a wet period with earlier and heavier rains than normal. A similar situation is occurring in neighbouring countries, including Zambia and Zimbabwe. In the Mashonaland area (Zimbabwe), at least 1000 people are affected. In Zambia, 1.5 million people are likely to be affected by the heavy rains and Zambia has already requested 13 million USD of aid money from the international community.

UNAPROC removes approximately 18.000 people from risk areas

The National Unity for Civil Protection (UNAPROC), comprising of army and policy personnal, has already taken action and has removed 3.564 families (17.820 people) from risk areas where they were in danger of being affected by floods in the townships of Cachaço and Jardim-Sede, in Mutarara district, Tete province.
